Optima Health partners named Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce’s ‘Small Business of the Year’

Two of the six businesses named Small Business of the Year by the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce and Small Business Development Center also offer Optima Health insurance products to their employees.

For 28 years the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce and the Small Business Development Center have recognized local small businesses with the annual Small Business of the Year awards. The winning businesses are chosen based on financial performance and business history, staff training and motivation, community involvement, business plan, growth and customer service, and satisfaction.

TASTE Unlimited won the Small Business of the Year for Norfolk. TASTE is a family-owned specialty food store, restaurant and catering business with great customer service. During this hard economy, “instead of cutting portions, we increased them, said President Jon Pruden. “Rather than cutting staff, we increased customer service. When times got tough, we reinvested to create a better customer experience.”

Kevin Kordeck accepts the award for A-Active Termite and Pest Control.

A-Active Termite and Pest Control was named Virginia Beach Small Business of the Year and then was awarded Hampton Roads Small Business of the Year. A-Active Termite and Pest Control has been serving Hampton Roads for 45 years.

Kevin Kordeck has owned A-Active since 1995 and has worked hard to create a great organization. “We believe that if we… look at our business through the eyes of our employees and our customers that we will make the right decisions about how to conduct our business,” he said.
