Wellness Program Pays Off Mission: Health Wins Sentara 2011 CEO Award
Several years ago Sentara and Optima Health developed a wellness program for employees, called Mission: Health. Optima Health is the insurance carrier for our parent company, Sentara Healthcare. Since then we have touted its success through a public relations campaign called The Wellness Payoff. At the end of last year, it was recognized as one of three system-wide programs that tackled difficult and complex issues creating significant change while spreading solutions across the organization. Mission: Health was awarded the 2011 CEO Award, which is the highest recognition for team members within Sentara Healthcare.
The Mission: Health program is an innovative, incentive-based wellness program that has improved the culture of wellness and health at Sentara and within the community. Initiated in 2008 with 9,200 Sentara employees, Mission: Health now has a total membership of more than 80,000 Optima Health members. In addition to improving the organization’s wellness culture, the program has a ROI of 6:1, and has saved $3.4 million in excess of project costs. Mission: Health has also helped to minimize annual premium increases for Sentara and its employees. The Mission: Health team has created a wellness culture at Sentara and realized significant savings in insurance premiums for the company and employees.
Optima Health has a proven track record in developing incentive-based wellness programs to meet our customers’ needs. Even small employers can benefit from simple programs that can help to increase awareness of health and prevention in an effort to reduce healthcare costs. Ask your sales executive about ways you can help improve the health of your employees.
Congratulations to Sentara and Optima Health for developing an award-winning wellness program!
